We were created for belonging, and each one of us has an innate desire to connect and feel seen. My experience as a therapist allows me to connect with a variety of people from all walks of life, including children, teenagers, athletes, couples, and families. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or other concerns, I would be honored to walk alongside you to help you find healing, peace, and strength in God. John 8:32 says “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” It is my firm belief that God will always fulfill His promises.

Online (WA only) – Tue & Fri
Whatever path you may be on, my desire is to help you recognize the power you possess within and open the door for God to heal you along your journey. Previous clients have described me as passionate, dedicated, outgoing, “tough but fair,” intense (the good kind), empathetic, and fun. I am cheerful, genuine, and engaged, giving 100% to my clients during our sessions. I truly desire a better life for you – one in which you feel empowered and capable to reach your limitless potential in all areas of your life.
My Goal as a Christian Counselor
My goal as your counselor is to help you feel empowered and equipped with the necessary skills to live a life where you are not consumed or defeated by the battle in your mind. I want you to feel encouraged and supported as we work together to find effective treatment methods to improve your overall health – physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. I am excited to help you see yourself through the eyes of God.
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I offer a safe, welcoming space where you can feel comfortable and heard. Depending on your preference, I offer the opportunity to pray together and invite the Lord’s presence at the beginning and end of each session. After determining your goals for therapy, we will develop a treatment plan catered to your needs and desired outcomes. When appropriate, I may recommend assessments to help you see where you are and where you want to be.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
I absolutely love every opportunity to pray with my clients. As a Christian counselor, I rely on God’s love and support to direct and guide my practice. My faith informs my practice because it is an integral part of who I am and impacts the way I offer counsel in every session. I am not someone who talks about my faith without showing it and living it out loud. My hope and aim is that you will see my faith through my actions and experience the love of God in our sessions.
Qualifications & Experience
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education Pedagogy from Cal State University, Fullerton and a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology from Angelo State University in Texas.
My Call to Christian Counseling
God has continued to show me this was the path He had for my life. I had no intentions of becoming a therapist as I became one later in life, but a lot of my life experiences led me to this career. I had a difficult childhood and wanted to understand why I acted certain ways in relationships, so I decided to get my Master’s degree in Psychology with the intent of becoming a college professor. I knew it would be a useful degree and I’ve always had a strong desire to understand human behavior.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
I am very passionate about mental health, particularly in sports and high performance jobs including the first responder community. I am extremely passionate about helping people who are “at rock bottom” and encouraging them along their journey. I love being outside every chance I get and enjoy doing therapy outside with clients. I also enjoy being a part of Bible studies and being surrounded by community. I am active and like walking, lifting weights, hiking, and chasing my four kids around our property. I am passionate about health and take a holistic approach in life and with clients and involve diet, sleep, physical exercise, and past and current stressors into treatment goals.

Anxiety
Anxiety is something so many of us struggle to grasp and understand. It comes in all different walks of life and can range from being annoying to debilitating. Performance anxiety and Generalized Anxiety Disorder are becoming more and more common in our society. Anxiety stems from our thoughts, and genetics play a role in this as well. I will help you identify your worrisome thoughts and see the loop regarding why and how these thoughts consume your everyday life.
Coaching
I am very passionate about coaching people through life’s ups and downs and helping them narrow their purpose-driven life. Sometimes we just need that cheerleader in our life who sees our potential. I will help you set small and large goals, dream map, and get you thinking outside of your limiting beliefs in order to live a life you often think about but aren’t sure where to start.
Counseling for Teens
Teens and young adults are some of my favorite people to work with. I have over 15 years of experience working with teens in all different walks of life. From students to athletes to raising themselves on their own with limited resources, I can truly say this is a special group. It is very overwhelming being a teen these days, and I want to help. I am a mom of four boys and I understand how difficult it can be to connect with your child in a way that makes them feel heard, appreciated, and valued. If you have a teenager who has gotten off track and you don’t know where to begin, I would be honored to help.
Personal Development
If you feel like you are losing steam or becoming disheartened with how things are going, this could be the area that needs some adjusting. Your present thoughts determine your future and the steps you’re willing to make. Have you lost your passion? Are you afraid or hesitant to change? By figuring out what fuels you and sets your soul on fire will allow you to set goals towards that vision. Vision drives performance and without a vision, you can’t see where you’re going.
Trauma
Has something happened to you recently or ages ago and it keeps coming up in your relationships or work? Do you struggle with identifying the root of your problem/s and why you act the way you do even when you’re aware of it? Trauma can also be inherited and passed down from generation to generation. Are you ready to do the work and identify what keeps you paralyzed in fear or reluctant to push past your past? If you desire a life of freedom from recurrent nightmares, you may have suppressed trauma you are or are not aware of.

Testimonials
Finding a counselor can be a big step. It can be challenging to find one that has an opening to accept another client, let alone one that seeks God first in all sessions. Shayla has been such an answer to prayer for our family. She opens up each session with prayer and we give God all the authority, power and praise as we navigate difficult times and rejoice in the victories. Shayla listens as we share updates on our week and she helps us learn the skills to provide practical and attainable steps as we navigate healing.
